Most of the time feel like I was born on another planet or in another time and somehow traveled to here and now by some freakish mistake. Always misunderstood. There will be people who will want to change us into their preferred standard. They will make our souls wither and with them we will always feel small and insecure. They will laugh at our naive desire to create something meaningful in our lives, something that might change the world for the better even in a tiny little way, instead of settling for something pointless. They will laugh at our gifts and talents when they have none. There will be people who will judge us and expect from us to behave the same way we did over and over again based on our past and on our mistakes. They would pick at our flaws, scars, and wounds, making us feel worthless and helpless, causing new bruises to appear. They will make us forget the sound of our own voice, the feeling of confidence, because to them everything that comes out of our mouths is stupid. They will make us hate ourselves for being weak. They will change us—bully us, use us, abuse us until there is nothing left to change except for the empty shell and shame for having tried to be ourselves, to have our own opinion, our own way. They will imprison us in our own fear, making us forever silent, suffocating us in their cold egotistic lethal grip. There will also be people who would just stand by and watch our flame being slowly burned out, instead of reaching out their hand to us. Screw those people. There will also be people who will change us too—they will make us better versions of ourselves and they will do that without even trying, without even knowing. Those people will make us stronger, will make us feel the earth beneath our feet. They will respect our opinion and our choices, and if we’re lucky they will even share our beliefs and values. They will make our souls bloom. They will be our Sun, our flame, our magical lightning bug we want to follow. They will not stand in our way of changing the world, they will stand next to us, shoulder to shoulder, looking into the future we want to save. They will feel like home. They will love us for being who we truly are—for being a freakin unicorn in a world full of goblins. They will be the only people in our lives who will look at us like we are the most amazing thing in this crazy fucked up world. They will never hurt us and be the cause of our anxieties. They will not point to our flaws incessantly—to them our flaws would be the perfect weirdness they adore. And instead of picking at our scars and causing new bruises, they will help us heal them. They will not silence us and imprison us but make our hearts scream louder. They will never make us hate ourselves, instead they will transform us into the most exquisite butterfly the world had ever seen and set us free in the starry night. They will be the breath of fresh air in our sickly lonely lungs. And like a cute little bunny leaves his permanent footprints on the freshly laid asphalt, they will leave their imprint on our hearts so that no matter where we go we will have them in our hearts forever. Those are the people we should cherish, search for, wait for, and never let go once we find them, even if it takes us a thousand years. |
